State of the Rivers Talk

Each winter, the St. Lawrence Land Trust hosts the Annual State of the Rivers Talk to increase the public awareness around our local rivers.

Past State of the Rivers Talks
9th Annual State of the Rivers Talk
February 29th, 2024 at 7pm in Griffiths Arts Center, room 123 on the St. Lawrence University Campus.
Talk Title: "Advocating for the Rights of Rivers in the St. Lawrence River Watershed"
Blake Lavia and Tzintzun Aguilar-Izzo from Talking Rivers will address how Rights of Rivers works in the North Country context and will discuss how people can take part in this growing movement. Rivers are part of the North Country community. They fulfill their roles and responsibilities towards us humans, and our more than human relations. In order to fulfill our responsibilities towards these waters that bring life to all, Talking Rivers is working to honor and advocate for the Rights of Rivers. This follows in tandem with the Rights of Nature movement, which seeks to pass legislation that protects the legally enforceable rights of more than human species and ecosystems.
